1969-1991
The Reverend Benjamin Franklin Jones was the son of Reverend Joseph H. Jones, Sr. the founder of Mount Hermon Baptist Church, and after Reverend J. H. Jones entered into eternal rest, he was asked to continue with his father’s work and was elected as the second pastor of Mount Hermon in 1970.
With the blessing of the Assistant Pastor Reverend E. Harrison Clark, and the congregation, Rev. Jones took the helm of Mount Hermon’s fourth home at West 159th Street and subsequently Townsend Avenue, Bronx, and then at our current location Nelson Avenue.
Reverend B.F. Jones continued to add to the spiritual growth of the church. The membership increased up 400 plus which included 75 Adult Ushers, numerous Junior Ushers, 7 Choirs, and many other ministries with an Out reach Culinary Ministry, known as “The Hut” that touched the lives of thousands of people throughout the Bronx and Metropolitan Area, regardless of their ability to pay.
In his 22 years of service at Mount Hermon, Reverend B.F. Jones will not only be remembered as pastor, but a sincere friend, advisor and comforter to many. Pastor Jones was never known to refuse helping anyone. We have been richly blessed to have had such a dedicated pastor who never accepted a salary, and he reinvested his entire pastor’s vacation fund back into Mount Hermon.
Reverend Benjamin F. Jones entered into eternal rest January 4, 1991
His motto: “It pays to serve the Lord.”
Reverend B. F. Jones was married to Arvenia Jones and was the father of two daughters Nyla and Julie.
