2003-2013
In the year of 2003 Mount Hermon Baptist Church was blessed by the arrival of our 4th Pastor. Reverend
Wenzell Phillip Jackson was elected Pastor on June 6, 2003, and was officially installed as Pastor on Sunday, August 31, 2003.
Reverend Jackson came to the Mount Hermon Baptist Church from San Francisco, California where he had began his preaching ministry at the age of 18 years old. Rev. Jackson’s last assignment in San Francisco was at Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church, where he served as Senior Pastor.
Reverend Jackson had a passion for people and their spiritual development. He demonstrated that passion by his love for teaching and preaching the word of God. Pastor Jackson spent many years in the corporate community. His corporate experience has taught him much about administration and he firmly believed in excellence in every aspect of the church. Reverend Jackson was very good at programming and designing. He designed the church logo which appears on all the church official and general documents and our church bulletins.
Reverend Jackson served as Vice President of Clergy Coalition for the 44th Precinct, Executive Committee for the Bronx HIV Care Network, President of the 16 Council District Clergy Council and Chairman of New York City Community Planning Board 4.
Reverend Jackson was a Bible teaching, Bible preaching man of God, committed to the call of Christ and takes the ministry that God has invested in him seriously. Reverend Jackson stated that, “ I love what I do for the Lord and have a passion for the Ministry of God’s Word.” He believed and always stated “its just nice to be nice.”
On February 5th, 2013 Pastor Jackson was called home to be with the Lord after 10 years of service at Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
Pastor Jackson was married to the former Tamra Holman.
In 2014 Nelson Avenue was renamed Bishop Wenzell P. Jackson Place, in honor of Reverend Jackson.
